New Uzbekistan University goes further and accepts an SAT Math score of 650 or above in place of its own entrance exam. So the same score that anchors a US application can also pay for a degree at home — a dual return that exists almost nowhere else. Who should take the SAT in Uzbekistan
You do not have to choose between the SAT and the national entrance exam the way students in Korea or Indonesia effectively do — in Uzbekistan the two can reinforce each other. The national exam is run by the Knowledge and Qualifications Assessment Agency, the renamed successor to the body most families still call the State Test Center or DTM: 90 questions for a maximum of 189 points, covering native language, mathematics and the history of Uzbekistan plus subject blocks tied to your chosen field, held once a year in mid-July. Under Presidential Decree PF-81 of 24 May 2024, admission moved to a test-first, choose-second model, with state grants allocated by field of study rather than by individual university. The Digital SAT differs on every axis: eight sittings a year instead of one, adaptive English-language Reading & Writing and Math instead of Uzbek- or Russian-language subject recall, a 400–1600 scale instead of 189 points, and a result that travels worldwide. Because the state rewards a strong SAT domestically, sitting it is a hedge rather than a gamble — but confirm the current-year threshold with the Agency, since the rule has been restated annually rather than fixed in permanent law.

How to Plan Your Preparation

The 1200 grant threshold and the DI-code submission process are reported through September 2025, but the government has restated the policy annually rather than fixing it permanently.
Sort out payment before you try to register. A plain UzCard or HUMO card will not complete College Board's checkout — you need a co-badged card (UzCard-Mastercard, HUMO-Visa, HUMO-Mastercard or UzCard-UnionPay) or a standalone Visa/Mastercard with a foreign-currency balance. Local banks issue these specifically for international transactions, but arranging one takes time you should not spend on deadline week.

There is no Uzbekistan surcharge; the extra $24 test-center fee applies only at selected centers in Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. Book a center early. Presidential Schools in Tashkent, Jizzakh and Andijan operate as official SAT centers and are open to all candidates, not only their own students, and international schools such as Tashkent International School are the other typical host type. Capacity outside Tashkent is thin — check the live center search at satsuite.collegeboard.org/sat/test-center-search rather than assuming all eight annual dates run near you.
Plan TOEFL, IELTS or the Duolingo English Test separately. Because secondary instruction in Uzbekistan is in Uzbek or Russian, most US universities will want proof of English proficiency, and the SAT does not substitute for it — a strong Reading & Writing section is not the same credential.
